The Arena (Reloaded) mod was made by Hardcore DX Developers, and released in October of 2002. The mod is for use with multiplayer and adds bots to an online server, these bots act similar to human players and they also can use several augmentations, the mod also includes some singleplayer content. Arena (Reloaded) features several new weapons, newly modified augmentations, adds equipment shops and makes similar small but useful changes and comes with 5 multiplayer maps and 12 mutators. After the first release the mod was abandoned and the best features migrated to another Hardcore DX Developer production called Hardcore DX. So basically Arena is just a kind of alpha preview of the first versions of the Hardcore DX mod, but it’s quite stable, playable and funny and includes several features that were not included to Hardcore DX. This version is identical with the version released in 2002, but features an easier way of installation and a slightly updated documentation.

These maps are phase two of the original optimised maps that I edited some time ago (now including Silo and Cathedral). These maps have further extreme editing and many more brushes have been taken out to improve performance.

Other changes include replacing alot of solid brushes with semi-solid ones, textures have their shadow detail removed and most textures are scaled at a value of 1.0. Skyboxes have been removed as well as door, window, and weapon board frames. The zip folders also contain pictures comparing the original geometry stats (left) against the new (right).

Here are my edited versions of all five standard Deus Ex multiplayer maps, these maps have been edited for use in the Deathmatch gametype as Deus Ex multiplayer did not come with any maps designed specially for Deathmatch.

These maps have some simple changes which include extra spawn points/weapon board locations (such as the new spawn point behind the Area 51 Bunker and the new spawn at the top of the “tower” in DXMP_CMD,  shown in pictures below). Also I’ve changed some weapon boards that were small and only containing a few weapons to full weapon boards with the familiar selection of weapons.

Also edited (and this was a major issue before in my opinion) is the location of the playerstarts (spawns), before it was common to spawn at the same weapon board as you opponent making the game chaos, however these edited maps with increased spawn points have only one or two playerstarts at each spawnpoint making spawning next to your enemy a rare occurance.

Overall these edits make for a much improved Deathmatch experience.

DXMP_Amon Map Update

Here’s an update of the DXMP_Amon map that I am making for Deus Ex multiplayer which is based on the Unreal Tournament ’99 map of the same name.

Much of the basic layout is now complete, the map has two lift/elevators in place which will activate upon standing on. The upper walkway is in place and so is the tunnel at the ground level. The first of the ramps are now complete, and I have begun work on the map’s out of bounds upper area which will eventually feature a mountainous wall.

Most of the map is textured, although it currently looks very grey and dull this will change as I begin to edit the lighting and hopefully the final version will have depth of mood. My next area to attack is placing in weapon boards and spawn points, and some decoration such as boxes, once these are in I can host the first beta version for testing and feedback.

Hotel Carone is a short single player Deus Ex mod that has you thrust back into UNATCO ranks. The mod is only a single mission, however in spite of this it features four playable maps and boasts a lot of depth and should provide around two solid hours of gameplay. The single mission has you using your brain more often then not to figure out the best approach to tackle the objectives  (such was the way in Deus Ex) and simply going in guns blazing will usually not be the best approach.

The level design allows for non linear play – the player can choose many different paths which provide different conclusions for instance, also the order of completing these objectives is not important (some objectives can even be failed, and you can still complete the scenario). Hotel Carone rewards the stealthy approach although it’s not strictly necessary, however playing through aggressively will still require some level of thought process.

Here’s an extremely early look at my latest map conversion – DXMP_Amon, a map based on an Unreal Tournament ’99 (UT ’99) map of the same name. The UT ’99 version is designed for a 1vs 1 game, however as Deus Ex multiplayer is slower paced then UT ’99, this map should work well for games with 10 players or so.

As Deus Ex uses the same engine as UT ’99 I really need to make my own interpretation of this map as I don’t want a clone of the UT ’99 map. Otherwise I might as well hit copy and paste, which I would never do, I wouldn’t even copy a single brush across.

I haven’t yet decided where the spawns will be, I usually aim for four spawns if I can and although this map is fairly small I still want to hit my target of four. The map has two floors of sorts, the upper floor is accessed via a single walkway or via two lifts or elevators. The map has lots of elevation changes and has a nice looped feel about it and so it should provide a decent fight experience.

Early shots below. The red coloured brushes are placeholder brushes and will change, they are there so I can quickly get a feel for the flow of the map’s layout.

DXMP_Mini_Dust

DXMP_Mini_Dust is a Deus Ex multiplayer fight map based on the Counterstrike Mini_Dust map. This version made by myself takes place at nighttime, the map has a small central indoor section which has four exit points to the surrounding outdoor areas.

The map boasts four spawn points, two of these are outside, one is completely inside and the fourth is somewhere in between. The maps contrast between indoor and outside is stark due to the massive shift in lighting, the map has a looped feel about it which keeps the action close by and with enough players this map becomes very frantically paced indeed.

DXMP_Mini_Dust is littered with crates, which provide alot of cover. The best cover is provided by the indoor section and so becomes a good go to point especially if you need healing via a medkit. Overall it’s a small map designed for fighting and one that is not to be taken seriously, it does it’s job as a small close quarters map well.

First of all I’d like to welcome you to my Deus Ex blog, this place will be taking over from http://www.DeusExOnline.com. Using wordpress I can have a modern, stylish layout with content that features heavily in visuals (Click on the pictures to enlarge them), something that suits my needs. Slowly but surely the switch from DeusExOnline to here is taking place. I’m adding to the blog regularly and the goal is to have a comprehensive site which features guides, maps, mods and anything and everything Deus Ex.

So here’s the first edition of my monthly Deus Ex newsletter – June 2013. The purpose of the newsletter is to inform people of all the new happenings going on in the Deus Ex community – these include new mods, maps, minimods, servers, clan wars, community events, fan art – pretty much anything I can get my hands on!. Deus Ex: Nihilum Finally Released!

The much anticipated single player Deus Ex mod Deus Ex: Nihilum has finally been Released! “FastGamerr” the mod’s author stated the following;

While any more content would have seriously delayed the mod’s release, I’m pleased to say that I still have succeeded in releasing the mod that I ultimately wanted to make. It’s not meant to break new ground for OR revolutionize a game from the year 2000 – thus DXN’s spirit is closer to mods like Double Cross – Chapter 1 (AKA Ritter Park) rather than The Nameless Mod. In many regards I’ve also tried to make it feel like an expansion pack to the original game, i.e. trying to follow the original’s spirit in elements like story, gameplay and dialogue. The plot can be interpreted as a shadow parallel to the original game’s story – following similar events through a different lens.

You can expect the following from the Deus Ex: Nihilum mod;

  • Completely new score with 80+ tracks (over 2 hours of music)
  • 2,200+ lines (more than 3.5 hours of audio)
  • 7-13 hours of gameplay (estimate based on testers’ playthrough times)
  • Exploration is everything! While it can be baffling that people are leaving valuable items and other belongings out in the open, agent Ingram doesn’t seem to mind!
  • Encrypted datacubes: Remember, once you’ve hacked an encrypted datacube, you have to click on it again to make the datacube information window disappear.
  • General rule on hacking: Keep in mind that you do not need this skill to advance the main plot itself. However, its general usefulness cannot be underestimated!

Deus Ex: Nihilum (DXN, DEN or Nihilum for short) is a first person shooter mod which takes place in an alternate Deus Ex world. It features new made-from-scratch original content, while also extensively featuring material from the Unatco Born mod (used with permission from fender2k1, UB’s project leader) and Deus Ex: Revision (used in accordance with the mod’s license).

In 2049, unsavory conditions are rampant throughout the world. As soon as it becomes clear that a terrorist attack in Shenzhen, China, was carried out by perpetrators with ties to international groups and that Hong Kong may be their next target – the United Nations Anti-Terrorist Coalition (UNATCO) dispatches their first nano-augmented agent, Mad Ingram, into the city to prevent the situation from escalating any further.

This mod has been in the works since 2004, and so it was a massive achievement to even finish. The mod features 100% voice acting, and has great looking maps with a great attention to detail, Deus Ex: Nihilum can be downloaded below.

Terminus Machina gets beta release date

Terminus Machina, a single player Deus Ex mod has been given a beta release date of June 1st! (Although now looking more like some time in June!)

The Author “SilverSpook” is looking for voice actors and has stated the following;

In order to get the game out by the June deadline, I will have to call on the community to get a swath of tertiary and a few larger-role voices cast. So if anyone at all, or anyone you know might be able donate a bit of time in front of their mic of any quality, then I would sure appreciate it, and so would everyone who wants to play this thing.  Message me / comment if interested in voice acting.

For those unfamiliar with Terminus Machina here’s a summary;

Take on the role of an operative in the Hex Gen network, a decentralized movement of hacktivists resisting the economic pillaging conducted by the unholy alliances of Big Tech, Big Military, and Big Finance. Think “The Windup Girl” meets “Neuromancer”. Features: -Facial, vocal biometric capture devices -“Nohface” electronic face projector for thwarting surveillance/drones which cover almost every inch of city -Wireless internet -Darknets – all web activity is fully surveilled, you need stealth not only in meatspace but in cyberspace -More types of hacking – cryptography, DDoS, spoofing -Hunger: experience real economic destitution as you slowly die of starvation and are forced to beg, steal, or even kill for a piece of bread. -DIY: Upgrade your hemp trenchcoat with solar trim, syphon electricity from the private power grid, take apart old phones and radios to hack together an EMP gun, set up a hydroponic garden in your squatted flat so you don’t have to kill for every meal.

Terminus Machina paints a picture of a futuristic, desolate world that is crumbling and falling into further disarray. The video looks very promising, the mod seems to not take it self too seriously and yet at the same time has a potentially deep storyline that drives the mod forwards.  Looking forward to seeing this mod in action, expect the beta version to be released some time this month.

GMDX Mod v2.1 update

GMDX is a Deus Ex singleplayer mod built on top of the long awaited HDTP graphics mod (for mod compatibility). The developer “CyberP” has just released an updated version of the mod entitled GMDX v2.1.

GMDX is designed to provide increased challenge, stronger choice and consequence and many other miscellaneous changes to improve the game. 

  • Improved AI and new enemy types
  • Improved and balanced augmentations
  • Improved and balanced skill system
  • Balanced weapons
  • Four new unique weapons
  • Less resources to be found

[FGS] Mapping Challenge 2013 kicks off

The longest running Deus Ex multiplayer clan [FGS] is currently running a 2nd mapping challenge following the success of the previous one held last year. It’s not long been set up and as of yet doesn’t have a deadline. The [FGS] Mapping Challenge 2013 is asking mappers to make a map that must be based on a real world location – any area that existed, will exist, or exists today.

The judges are looking for things that haven’t been seen before, and are also looking for a good accurate likeness of the real world location. There is no limit on size, nor is there any preference on gametype suitability. Mappers are asked to make their own threads on http://www.Gravity-World.com providing information, screenshots and updates on their creations.

Below are early screenshots of entries to the challenge, the mapping challenge is looking for more entries, so brush off those SDK’s!.

Assualt Gametype for Deus Ex Multiplayer in the works

Work has begun on an assault style gametype (as seen in Unreal Tournament) series of maps  for Deus Ex multiplayer. So far the maps will have simple goals and objectives, however, these objectives can be made more intricate with additional coding help in future.

Deus Ex Human Revolution consumables for Hengsha RPG mod

Recently Prototype has built a mini map showcasing his first set of consumables that will be used in the Hengsha RPG mod for Deus Ex multiplayer. Painkillers, Praxis Kits, Credit Chips and Cyberboost Pro Energy Bars can be seen amongst the collection  pictured below. New Deus Ex multiplayer clan “Revolutionaries” is born

A new Deus Ex multiplayer clan called “Revolutionaries” has emerged, they are primarily a zero augmentation clan and have interest in, and actively encouraging, modding & mapping. Clan members in game can be seen wearing the tag as [R] or {R}, so look out for them in game.

The joint leaders SpecX and Unknown are actively recruiting new clan members (who need to take part in trials) and can be found here (Bookmark this site guys!). The site has lots of very cool content added to it on a daily basis, including walkthroughs, guides, concept art, map and mods.

Hatchet Mod updates

The cartoon-like vibe is clear to see in Hatchet.

Hatchet Mod has recently had a few updates, it is a heavy duty conversion single player mod for Deus Ex. Hatchet contains a unique storyline & employs free-roam mechanics to present a world which will shock, satisfy, and puzzle you to the end.

Hatchet’s Plot remains a mystery as it’s author “WCCC” is keeping his cards close to his chest. However he assures us that the plot has been heavily thought out and layered with the concept of 12 different endings in mind.  Visually Hatchet stands out from the crowd with it’s cartoon-esque presentation, this is certainly a unique looking Deus Ex mod.

[FGS] Cozmo RPG v2 server makes a reappearance!

The [FGS] Cozmo RPG v2 server is back up after many months of absence, this server will be up until at least July so get in on the RPG action while you can!

A new map that I have been working on, on and off for the last few months has reached Prefinal 2 stage. The map is based on a map from Unreal Tournament called Peak.  This map can be viewed at the ~~[:¤:]~~ Hivemind 0A (UK) (GamingDeluxe.co.uk) server.

DXMP_Peak is a much rounder version of the Unreal Tournament ’99 version and I’ve had to be very careful not to cause BSP holes as this map has lots of complex geometry so close together, somehow I’ve gotten away with it! Early build shots below.

Atrey’s version of a capture the flag mod v1, which adds some extra admin commands when compared to the MiniMTL CTF version. The mod comes with three default DXMP maps that are setup to work specifically for capture the flag, DXMTL is needed when hosting.

UNATCO Recreation City map is currently in production, it takes place in a scientific lab in a post apocolyptic world.  The lucky few survivors continue to build an underground world which keeps them safe from the UV light of the sun.

And finally {Ø} [VØID] clan challenged ~~[:¤:]~~ Hivemind clan to a 3 vs 3 man clan war in the 0 augs gametype. The war is planned to last three rounds with a victory condition of time (a time limit), as of yet no date has been set for the war.

Summer 101 gets first public update in over three years!

Summer 101 (a mod with both single player and multiplayer support) has had a small update after a long time of silence. The main plot of Summer 101 is the following;

“You’re the new kid in town. Go to school and complete exams to get good grades and advance in academic life. Or just cause mayhem with various new weapons and ways to cause mischief. Whatever the case, there is a vast world to explore and your actions will change everything in it. You can also join your friends in multiplayer to compete in new modes. Meet many unique characters, discover a lot more ways to learn about stuff and dig in to find some deep secrets.”

The update (the first Summer 101 moddb update in over three years!) states that there will be a multiplayer element to the mod, (which is really cool as many mods don’t have online conponents) the mini update also displays two early screenshots of two houses that will be part of the villa map where the main character lives.

Anunthra is a new single player mod (although a multiplayer add-on is planned) that takes place in medieval times and it’s story focuses on the struggles between light and dark forces. It’s main character is just a normal, average guy, he arrives one night to the mainland in order to start his new life later becoming involved in the conflict of light vs dark.

We can expect to see dragons, magic, swords, axes and bows, Anunthra’s world is large and so the maps are split into sections. Otchlan – A eerie, atmospheric survival horror mod in development for Deus Ex.

Latest shots Otchlan Mod have been released (pictured above).  Otchlan is a Deus Ex single player Survival Horror mod which is divided into two parts – adventure and action. The singer player mod “Deus Ex_002” has had a recent update from the author “ben0451”. The author states;

I’m sorry, this mod took me a lot more of time that I have expected. I have made a lot of changes, and had to change the majority of my maps. I don’t know when it would be finished, but if I have enough time this summer, it could be available at the end of the summer.

In this mod, you will have: _6/7 main missions (=6/7 maps)        

  • new music
  • some ‘new’ weapons
  • 3 endings
  • new nsf units

New shots can be seen below, for those that are unfamiliar with Deus Ex_002 here’s a brief summary;

In Deus Ex 002 you control a clone of JC Denton who works for BobPage. You are given the order to kill your brother, Paul Denton, and his allies, will you choose to carry out your order?.  Kill your brother and have a greater bond with Page, kill both Page and your brother,  or side with your brother, kill Bob Page and make a better world?

New Deus Ex multiplayer sites

A couple of new Deus Ex multiplayer sites have popped up this month, both of them are in their extreme infancy. The first can be found at http://www.deus-ex.net/ this Deus Ex community site is being setup by KillingMachine. And the second site is at http://ng2dx.enjin.com/ is another new clan for Deus Ex multiplayer called No Guts No Glory or simply NG2.

Hungarian Localization Deus Ex Mod

The Hungarian localization Deus Ex mod has translated strings, books, bulletins, emails, conversations, Infolink images and UI for the Hungarian language.

A recent update has been released by “birdzoli”, which fixes some minor bugs, ver 1AF4B can be downloaded here (34.5MB)

Deus Ex: Dutch Translation

A Deus Ex mod is currently being worked on that aims to convert the language to Dutch. The author “Wasmachineman_NL” is currently looking for translators and can be contacted here. A work in progress demo can be downloaded here, (needs shifter mod to work).
